The Narrative

The Soul of the Object

This magnificent circular tabletop is a masterwork of Moroccan craftsmanship, showcasing the ancient art of Zellige. A hypnotic array of geometric stars radiates from the center, formed by thousands of individually hand-chiseled tiles. The striking contrast between the deep, vibrant indigo glaze and the natural, unglazed beige of the terracotta clay creates a visual depth that is both bold and earthy, capturing the essence of traditional Moorish design. Born from the historic kilns of Fez, each tiny tile, or 'zellij', is painstakingly cut by hand using a sharp hammer in a process known as 'tastir'. A master artisan, or 'maalem', then assembles these pieces face-down in a complex puzzle, relying on memory and generations of knowledge to create the intricate pattern before pouring a binding cement mixture over the back. This reverse method ensures a perfectly flat and smooth surface once the piece is flipped and revealed. More than just furniture, this tabletop is a piece of history and cultural identity. It brings the soulful elegance of a riad courtyard into any home. Durable and weather-resistant, it is perfectly suited for use as a stunning dining table, a statement patio piece, or a grand entry table, promising to be a conversation starter for generations to come.

"Every imperfection tells a story of human hands at work."
