The Soul of the Object
This exquisite round tabletop is a masterwork of Moroccan Zellige, the ancient art of hand-cut mosaic tile. The design is anchored by a dramatic background of black marble tesserae, each piece showing unique natural white veining. Emerging from this dark expanse is a radiant central motif—a stylized four-pointed floral geometric pattern rendered in creamy beige and warm, reddish-brown ceramic tiles. The entire composition is framed by a precise border of alternating beige and black rectangles, creating a sense of contained elegance.
Handcrafted in the historic medina of Fez, this piece represents hundreds of hours of meticulous labor by a master artisan, or 'Maâlem'. Each tiny tile, or 'furmah', is individually chipped from larger glazed clay or stone pieces using a sharp hammer, a technique unchanged for centuries. The tiles are then assembled face-down in a complex puzzle before being set permanently with a durable cement backing. This process ensures that no two tables are exactly alike, carrying the imperceptible marks of the artisan's hand.
More than just furniture, the Amira table is a piece of architectural history, evoking the grand tiled courtyards of Andalusian palaces and traditional Moroccan riads. Its robust construction makes it suitable as a statement piece for an indoor dining area or as a luxurious addition to a covered patio or garden, bringing a touch of exotic, timeless beauty to any space.
"Every imperfection tells a story of human hands at work."
