The Narrative

The Soul of the Object

Bring the timeless elegance of a Moroccan palace into your home with this magnificent oval Zellige tabletop. Handcrafted in the historic medina of Fez, this piece is a stunning example of the centuries-old art of mosaic tilework. Thousands of individually hand-chiseled terracotta tiles, glazed in a vibrant palette of deep blues, emerald greens, saffron yellows, and rich reds, are meticulously assembled to create a mesmerizing arabesque pattern of intertwining floral motifs and geometric geometry. The creation of this tabletop is a labor of love and extreme precision. A master artisan, or 'Maalem', first designs the intricate pattern. Then, apprentices painstakingly cut each tiny tile, known as a 'furmah', from larger glazed clay squares using a sharp hammer called a 'menqach'. These tiles are then placed face-down in a reverse mosaic technique before being set with a durable binder. The result is a perfectly smooth, durable surface that is both functional furniture and a breathtaking work of art. This substantial piece is ideal as a statement dining table or a luxurious patio centerpiece. Its robust construction ensures it can withstand the elements, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. More than just a table, it is a piece of Moroccan history and soul, promising to be a conversation starter and a cherished heirloom for generations.

"Every imperfection tells a story of human hands at work."
