The Narrative

The Soul of the Object

This breathtaking decorative charger is a masterclass in Moroccan mixed-media craftsmanship, hailing from the historic artisan workshops of Fes. At its heart lies a hand-painted blue and white ceramic base, adorned with traditional floral motifs. Overlaid upon this is a striking eight-pointed geometric star pattern, meticulously constructed from polished camel bone and framed with gleaming metal, creating a captivating contrast of texture and color.

The central disc is encircled by a lavishly decorated metal rim, showcasing the influence of Andalusian design. The metalwork features openwork filigree and is embellished with teardrop-shaped bone inlays dotted with black pigment, alongside vibrant red and turquoise resin 'jewels' set into the metal. The outer edge is finished with a rhythmic pattern of paisley-like flourishes.

More than just a decorative object, this charger is a fusion of artistic traditions, blending pottery, metalwork, and intricate inlay techniques passed down through generations of Maalems (master craftsmen). It makes a magnificent centerpiece for a table or a dramatic statement piece when hung on a wall, bringing the opulent spirit of a Moroccan palace into any home.

"Every imperfection tells a story of human hands at work."
