The Narrative

The Soul of the Object

Bring the tranquil elegance of a traditional Riad courtyard into your space with this stunning handcrafted wall fountain. Dominated by a striking contrast of deep cobalt blue and crisp white glazes, the fountain features a classic Moorish arch silhouette. The upper panel displays an intricate, radiating geometric star pattern—a hallmark of Islamic sacred geometry—while the semi-circular basin below is adorned with a charming checkered diamond motif. A solid brass spigot serves as the central functional and decorative element. This piece is a masterwork of 'Zellij', the ancient Moroccan art of tile mosaic. Originating from the historic kilns of Fez, each individual tile fragment (furmah) is painstakingly hand-chiseled by a master artisan, or 'Maâlem', using a sharp hammer called a 'menqach'. These tiny pieces are then assembled face-down in a complex puzzle before being set into a durable cement foundation. This laborious process ensures that no two fountains are exactly alike, carrying the unique imprint of the artisan's hand. Designed to be a functional water feature, this fountain can be installed indoors in an entryway or conservatory, or outdoors on a patio or garden wall. It is more than just decor; it is a piece of architectural history that evokes the cool serenity and sophisticated craftsmanship of Andalusian Morocco.

"Every imperfection tells a story of human hands at work."
