The Narrative

The Soul of the Object

This striking circular tabletop is a masterwork of traditional Moroccan Zellige, bringing the vibrant soul of Fez directly into your living space. The design is dominated by a complex, radiating geometric star pattern—a classic Islamic motif symbolizing unity and the infinite—rendered in a bold contrast of deep crimson red and creamy off-white glazed tiles. The intricate interplay of shapes creates a mesmerizing visual rhythm that commands attention.

Handcrafted by skilled artisans, or 'Maâlems', the process begins with raw clay tiles that are glazed and fired. Each individual tessera is then painstakingly hand-chiseled using a sharp hammer called a 'menqach' to achieve the precise shapes required for the design. The mosaic is assembled upside down, a blind process requiring generations of inherited knowledge to ensure the final pattern emerges flawlessly once grouted with cement.

Substantial and durable, this tabletop is designed to sit atop a wrought iron base (sold separately). It is an ideal centerpiece for a breakfast nook, a conservatory, or a covered patio, instantly adding a touch of exotic elegance and historical artistry to any environment. Due to the handmade nature of Zellige, slight imperfections in the tile glaze and cut are inherent, marking it as a truly unique, artisanal piece.

"Every imperfection tells a story of human hands at work."
