The Soul of the Object
This spectacular decorative bowl is a masterclass in Moroccan mixed-media craftsmanship, harmonizing the earthy grounding of ceramic with the opulent sheen of metalwork. The piece features a sturdy earthenware base completely clad in intricately embossed nickel silver (maillechort). The metal surface is alive with hand-hammered botanical motifs and swirling filigree, creating a rich, tactile texture that catches the light from every angle.
The central focus is a striking four-lobed geometric design, reminiscent of an unfolding blossom or a compass rose, rendered in vibrant cloisonné-style enamel. Deep cobalt, turquoise, sunny yellow, and creamy white glazes are pooled within raised metal barriers, creating a jewel-like contrast against the silvered background. The design is further embellished with small, bezel-set cabochons resembling turquoise and coral, adding pops of color and dimension.
Originating from the artisan workshops of Safi, famous for pushing the boundaries of traditional pottery, this bowl is not merely functional but a piece of art. It serves as a magnificent centerpiece for a dining table, a luxurious fruit bowl, or can be displayed on a stand to bring the exotic elegance of the Maghreb into any living space.
"Every imperfection tells a story of human hands at work."
