The Soul of the Object
Bring the timeless elegance of a Moroccan courtyard into your home with the 'Zahra' Zellige Table Top. This exquisite piece is a vibrant testament to the ancient art of mosaic, featuring a mesmerizing geometric starburst pattern that radiates from the center. A harmonious palette of Mediterranean turquoise, warm ochre yellow, deep indigo, and earthy charcoal is set against a crisp white glaze, creating a kinetic visual energy that captures the light and the imagination. Handcrafted in the historic medina of Fes, this tabletop is the result of weeks of meticulous labor by master artisans, known as Maâlems. The process begins with raw clay, hand-molded, fired in traditional olive pit kilns, and glazed. Each individual tile shape is then painstakingly hand-chiseled using a heavy, sharp hammer called a 'menqach'. The artisan assembles the complex puzzle upside down, relying solely on memory and rhythm to create the intricate design before pouring the cement backing that binds it forever. This sturdy tabletop is perfect for creating an intimate bistro setting on a covered patio, serving as a striking side table in a bohemian living room, or acting as a pedestal for your favorite plants. Due to the handmade nature of zellige, slight imperfections in the enamel and cut are characteristic, ensuring that your piece is truly a one-of-a-kind work of art imbued with the soul of Morocco.
"Every imperfection tells a story of human hands at work."
